Pastels & Drawing

I began painting with pastels in 2021, mostly out of a desire to draw - to create visuals with the hand and not just the camera. I've derived some of the images from photos and some from my imagination. I don't feel I've found "my thing" with pastels just yet, as I am still trying out lots of different techniques and materials. It's really fun to take on a new medium, going through that process of struggling to learn, making clumsy early efforts, having a few "eureka" moments, despairing over failed attempts, and ultimately having some surprising successes. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that I've sold a few paintings at my local artist's coop. In 2024 I began to work with coloured pencils, a medium I'd tried before, but hadn't been satisfied with. But the work with pastels has given me some technique insights that I've applied to the pencils, and I'm really satisfied with how these drawings are turning out.
